Samenvatting:
Since the beginning of the 19th century, it has been customary in European courts to establish a decoration, usually a commemorative medal, to commemorate weddings, coronations and anniversaries. Such medals were usually awarded to guests, courtiers, servants and employees. The medal in question here was instituted in 1892 by Grand Duke Carl Alexander of Saxony. He and his Dutch wife Sophie celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on 8 October. It was awarded in five different forms, including a silver one.
Nota:
Frederik Gerardus Leistikow was the father of Louis H. F. Leistikow, musician & later conductor of a Dutch infantry regiment (wind band of the Netherlands Marine Corps/Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine, 1906-1940).
