- The Histories, also known as The History of Herodotus, is considered the founding work of history in Western literature. Written in 430 BC in the Ionic dialect of classical Greek, 'The Histories' serves as a record of the ancient traditions, politics, geography, and clashes of various cultures that were known in Greece, Western Asia and Northern Africa at that time. The Histories were at some point divided into the nine books that appear in modern editions, conventionally named after the nine Muses.
Lorenzo Valla was an Italian Renaissance humanist, rhetorician, educator, scholar, and Catholic priest. He is best known for his historical-critical textual analysis. He is sometimes seen as a precursor of the reformation; Konrad Heresbach was a German Reformer, Calvinist, humanist and educator; Henri Estienne (1528-1598) was a French printer, philologist, Hellenist and humanist who published one of the most important lexica of the sixteenth century, the 'Thesaurus linguæ græcæ' (1572) - Permalink:
