Christian devotional literature
The term "Erbauungsliteratur' (edification literature), first mentioned around the 14th century, originally describes popular writings with a religious motivation. Edification literature is not theological literature, as it does not pursue scientific discourses and has no dogmatic intentions. Rather, with the changes of the modern era, there was a focus on inwardness, which stood out through increased piety. It was a guide to a virtuous life that was intended to emotionally edify the mind.
Johannes Lassenius (1636-1692) was a German Lutheran theologian and devotional writer of the Baroque period.
