Nota:
Maffei was a Venetian writer and art critic, author of many articles and plays. An antiquarian with a humanist education whose publications on Etruscan antiquities stand as incunables of Etruscology. Founder of the Lapidary Museum of Verona. A multifaceted figure in the Italian and European panorama. Military, philosopher, poet, playwright, historian, scientist, opera librettist, but above all a passionate fanatic of antiquities. He was an avid collector of ancient manuscripts and epigraphs, which he acquired in Verona, Italy or brought from all over the Mediterranean basin thanks to the possessions of the Republic of Venice, of which Verona was a part. Maffei was a prominent member of the Veronese Accademia Filarmonica and he worked for the realization of the theater that would be inaugurated in 1732 with Vivaldi's 'La fida ninfa', for which he wrote the libretto.
