Nota:
Henri Pène du Bois, an American writer, literary critic, and journalist whose friendship with French author Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) was the source of his son’s name. Born in a cultured, sophisticated family of French origin but with roots in America dating back to 1748, he was an avowed francophile and created a sophisticated environment deeply engaged in the French culture. He accompanied his son Guy, a painter, on a trip to Paris in 1905. His tragic death in 1906 on board of the ship for their return home to America forced Guy to turn to art criticism to help support his family.

Octave Uzanne was a 19th-century French bibliophile, writer, publisher, and journalist.
