Michael Walther the Elder was a German Lutheran theologian.
Johann Rist was a German poet and dramatist best known for his hymns, which inspired musical settings and have remained in hymnals.
Michael Jacobi was a North German composer and kantor who collaborated with the poet Johann Rist for many years.
Beautiful double paged title page engraving by Hans Johan Martin Winterstein (fl.1652-86):on the left a scene in the church, in the middle some singers, around them sitting and standing the churchgoers on the ground floor and on two galleries. Above in the middle the portrait of Rist in an oval frame. On the right side six vignettes, in center a banderol with the inscription: "Johan Risten | Catechismus | Andachten | nebenst Erbauliche[n] | liedern über die Christ= | liche Haustaffel. | Lüneburg. | Beÿ den Sternen[n]." At the bottom of the engraving: "Hans Martin Winterstein [space] delineavit et Sculpsit Hamburg." - Permalink:
