Nota:
The book contains a variety of poems, including love poems, religious poems and poems about nature. The poems reflect the style and language of the end of the 18th century. Van Der Wilp is considered one of the most important female poets in Dutch literary history. Her work has been praised as much for its poetic qualities as for its feminism, as she was one of the few female writers of her time to openly express her views on women's rights. This book is therefore not only a collection of beautiful poems, but also an important historical document that gives us insight into the literary and social context of the 18th century.
In Dutch art history Van Der Wilp became known because of a portrait that Marinkelle had made of her in 1771 and which she replaced with an image more appropriate to her age, plated after Bruyninx by Vinkeles, as the first was engraved by J. Houbraken, while both at the time experienced a rather ambiguous interest.
