Nicolas-Charles Bochsa was a harpist and composer who worked mainly in Paris and London. He was became involved in a forgery in Paris and fled to London to escape prosecution. In 1839 he ran off with opera singer Anna Bishop, the wife of the composer Henry Bishop. Together they toured in North America and Europe. They also went to Australia, where Bochsa died after giving only one concert. Anna Bishop was heartbroken, and commissioned an elaborate tomb for him in Camperdown Cemetery Sydney. His 'Nouvelle méthode' is the first truly comprehensive treatise on harp-playing.
The binding matches 09L18 (containing harp music by Benigne Henry, Cousineau and Xavier Desarges) also from the collection of Mme De Villaines.
