Nota:
Van Westreenen started collecting at the age of thirteen, with an interest in the history of printing. He collected old manuscripts and incunabula, as well as coins. Van Westreenen also bought parts of the libraries of his relatives Gerard Meerman (1722-1771) and his son Johan Meerman (1753-1815); the library of the latter was publicly auctioned in 1824, with a large part finding its way abroad and therefore part ending up in the Van Westreenen collection. On his death he left his house and the collections to the State of the Netherlands, which became the basis for the still existing Museum Meermanno-Westreenianum, which contains the second largest collection of incunabula (around 1500) in the Netherlands. Since 2019, the museum is called the "Huis van het Boek".
