The publisher, John Bell (1745-1831), was an important printer and typographer whose bookshop, 'British Library', was located in the Strand and who pioneered the regular s (instead of the long s) in English printing;
Frontispiece engraving by Conner after Samuel De Wilde (1751-1832) depicting Mr Palmer as Tom in Act 3 Scene 1 "I would not be a bit richer, a bit taller, a bit shorter, than I am at this instant." ; standing, whole length, gesturing with right to the chest, hat in left hand, facing front; in oval frame.
