Nota:

With French 17th-century moralists as his closest model, the Swedish count and writer d'Oxenstirn wrote aphorisms and shorter essays on ethical, religious and aesthetic issues, elegantly designed with no depth but highly valued by his contemporaries, who called him the "Montaigne of the North". Oxenstierna's 'Recueil de pensées' (5 booklets, 1720–22) and 'Bouquet de diverses fleurs' (printed together with the Recueil 1736) were published in a series of editions in different languages.
