- 'Attic Nights' by Aulus Gellius is a commonplace book on grammar, philosophy, history, antiquarianism and other subjects preserving fragments of the works of many authors who might otherwise be unknown today. It offers a glimpse into the cultures of both Greek and Roman life and society. Gellius began the work while he was living in Attica, Greece, but concluded the work in Rome. The rather disjunct contents include Gellius’s observations and unusual interests found in books or overheard in conversation.
