Nota:
"Blanca und Enrico : Ein Trauerspiel in fünf Aufzügen" by David Friedrich Gensicke was published in 1795.
"L'Abbé de l'Épée, comédie historique en 5 actes et en prose" van Jean Nicolas Bouilly was premiered in 1799, Paris, Comédie-Française.
The dutch version seems to be translated by Samuel Iperusz. Wiselius, for a performance in the "Nederduitschen Schouwburg te Amsterdam" in 1800.
"L'Abbé de l'Épée" features Charles-Michel de l'Épée (1712-1789), inventor of sign language and creator of what has now become the National Institute for Young Deaf People in France. A great figure and benefactor of humanity, the abbot was celebrated as such from the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century, with Bouilly's play playing a large part in this cult, which was maintained mainly by the Institute for the Deaf and Dumb.
Bouilly is best known for writing a libretto, supposedly based on a true story, about a woman who disguises herself as a man to rescue her husband from prison, which formed the basis of Beethoven's opera Fidelio as well as a number of other operas.
"Die Brüder, Schauspiel in Fünf Aufzügen" by Friedrich Eberhard Rambach was published in 1798.
Each play is preceded by an etching showing a specific scene from the play.
