David Lindelbach was the director of the Amsterdam Schouwburg in 1687-88
Between 1685 and 1687, Lingelbach was involved in setting up an opera in Buiksloot, outside the town's jurisdiction. After one season, the project proved unfeasible for repetition. In 1687, he was appointed director of Van Campen's theatre, alongside Jan Pluimer. Because of the bad economic times, a violent stock market crash in which Coenraad van Beuningen lost half a million guilders, preparations for the invasion by Stadholder William III and the looming Nine Years' War, visitors stayed away.
