- "Though Rameau had already stated the fundamental principles of his revolutionary theory of harmony in his 'Traité de l'harmonie' of 1722, he continued to revise and adapt the new system until his death some forty years later. In 'Demonstration', Rameau offered a new derivation of the minor third (based upon a theory of multiple generation), and "altered his view of the subdominant [recognizing] its position as a product of musical experience rather than of nature" (GDM).
