Jan Robbers was the organist of the Fransche Kerk en Groote Kerk in Rotterdam.At the age of eighteen, Robbers moved to Rotterdam, where he became bell ringer of the Laurenskerk. In 1778 he was appointed organist of the same church - he held both positions until his death. He also acted as a judge of newly-built organs. His sonatas and sonatinas for harpsichord or piano are a wonderful example of the elegant, light music around 1800. - Permalink:
