a| Jan Baert, also known by his French name Jean Bart (Dunkirk, 1650-1702) was a Flemish privateer in French service. He was famous for his courage and agility. He managed to capture 386 ships, and sunk or set fire to a large number of vessels. For this reason, he was also called "the terror of the North Sea".
