a| Zeger or Siger of Brabant was a thirteenth-century philosophy teacher at the Paris faculty of liberal arts. He represented a radical Aristotelianism, closely aligned with the Aristotle commentaries of the twelfth-century Andalusian, Islamic sage Averroes. For this reason, the movement, of which Zeger was the main representative, was also referred to as averroism from the nineteenth century onwards, following the term averroista ("averroist") created by Thomas Aquinas.
