a| Count Grigori Vladimirovich Orlov, was a Russian senator, engaged in history, political science and literature, and a member of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences and of the Academy in Naples. Due to his health, he lived abroad for the most part, particularly in Paris, where during the Restoration he made he made friends with the liberal party, whose ideas he wanted to propagate in Russia, but was disgraced for a time by Emperor Alexander. In 1800, he married Countess Anna Ivanovna Saltykova (1777-1824), daughter of Field Marshal Ivan Petrovich Saltykov (1730-1805). The marriage remained childless. The legitimate male Orlov line died out with him.
