a| Benjamin Hederich (1675-1748) was a German encyclopedia and textbook author. From 1702 he worked as a teacher, first at the school in Kloster Berge, later as rector in Grossenhain. In his spare time he wrote introductions to numerous sciences, as well as dictionaries and textbooks in Greek and Latin. His guidance on the noblest historical sciences includes the fields of chronology, genealogy, heraldry, numismatics and diplomacy; without using this term, he put together a canon of auxiliary sciences that has survived almost unchanged to this day.
