a| Le Misant(h)rope was a Dutch journal originally published every monday from May 19th 1711 tot December 26th 1712 . Published in 2 vols. in The Hague by T.Johnson in 1711 and 1712. The magazine was reprinted in 1726 (own revision by Van Effen) in The Hague; 1741 (Lausanne/Geneva) and twice in 1742 (Amsterdam and The Hague).

A journalist, he imitated The Spectator with the publication of the Dutch-language Hollandsche Spectator. He gained international fame as a writer of French periodicals and a translator from English into French, and he is also recognized as one of the most important Dutch language writers of the 18th century and an influential figure of the Dutch Enlightenment
