a| Van der Dussen, who was born on 30 September 1782 in Arnhem as the son of the organist of the Grote Kerk there, was, before his appointment to Kampen, organist of the Lutheran Church in Arnhem and Kapellmeister of the Batavian Civic Guard Corps. At Kampen, he was also conductor of the choir. As city music master, he took care of the music college's rehearsals and concerts. Furthermore, he had to give music lessons, enliven promotions at the Latin school with a group of musicians, give public (organ) concerts and take care of everything related to the music college. Van der Dussen sometimes acted as inspector for repairing or building new organs, for instance in Elburg (1825), Terwolde (1827) and Heerde (1845). He also wrote about church music and composed. Van der Dussen married Johanna Geertruide Zegers. Of his children, Frederik followed in his father's footsteps. In 1855, the festive celebration of Jan Herman van der Dussen's 50th anniversary as organist in Kampen took place. He died on 15 February 1859.
