a| Dirk Pietersz. Pers started his carreer as a printer and later became a successful Dutch publisher, writer and poet. One of his most important works was a translation of Cesare Ripa's Iconologia.

a| Pers's printers emblem is printed on the title page, with the motto: 'Ick strii op sno eerde'. Contains beautiful engravings and woodcut initial letters. The first part of the book, 'Ionas de Straf-Prediker', contains four (round) engraved illustrations (on pages 1, 23, 31, 73). The second part, 'De Boetvaerdige Sondaressen,' has 6 engravings (pages 87, 93, 101, 107, 111, 117). On page 123 there is an engraving depicting Jesus Christ signed 'JV.in.D Geijn.ex'.

Bol, HC f., H. v. Luyck and one HC f.; 6 prints depicting the penitent women of the New Testament, 2 signed H. Goltius inuentor; and one print depicting Christ the Redeemer, signed J.V. in., D. Geijn ex. The Jonas series was originally engraved by H. Cock after Bol; the penitents are reduced and reversed copies by Karel van Sichem of engravings by Jan Saenredam after Goltzius; and the Christ was engraved by Jacob de Gheyn.
