a| Franz Xaver Murschhauser lived and worked mainly in Munich, he studied with Johann Caspar Kerll. Murschauser published organ works and two music theory works, of which this is the second. The first is 'Fundamentalische kurz- und bequeme Handleitung sowohl zur Figural als Choral Music' (Munich, 1707). Both works are considered conservative and distinctly 'old-fashioned' in their treatment of the subject, and were strongly attacked by Johann Mattheson in his 'Critica musica'.
