a| Guidubaldo Bonarelli wrote the pastoral drama 'Filli di Sciro' (published in 1607 but first performed in Ferrara four years earlier), a successful remake of the Leggenda di Florio e Biancofiore, whose musicality is a prelude to melodrama. The story of the drama is also intricate due to the overlapping of various love plots between the shepherd protagonists; in the end, the affair is resolved thanks to the mechanism of agnition. The genius of the plot, which struck and aroused much controversy among Bonarelli's contemporaries, was the character of the nymph in love with two shepherds, who meditated suicide because of her uncertainty. The play was a great success throughout the 17th century and was translated into French, English and Dutch

a| Together with Torquato Tasso's 'Aminta' and Giambattista Guarini's 'Il pastor fido', Bonarelli's 'Filli di Sciro' is considered one of the masterpieces of the genre of the pastoral drama

a| Posthumous publication. After the author's death, Henrietta Elizabeth and Everardina Jakoba de With made sure that what remained of their sister's work was published. Thus, as early as 1728, Fillis van Scirus was published, supplemented by her Mengeldichten. The dedication of both sisters to Pieter Vlaming suggests that the latter had visited Katharina shortly before her death and that she had asked him to dedicate Fillis to him.
