a| Eutropius, a Roman historian, was active in the 4th century. His Summary of Roman History (Latin: Breviarium Historiae Romanae) is a ten-chapter compendium of Roman history from its foundation to the short reign of Jovian. The independent value of his Summary is small, but it sometimes fills a gap left by the more authoritative records. It is particularly useful to historians for its account of the First Punic War, as no copy of Livy's original books for that period have survived.

a| According to Ton Koopman this copy could be a "prijsband van een stad" (prize book of a city). A prize book is a book that was given in the 16th-19th century to pupils who performed well at school. This phenomenon, which emerged in the 16th century, spread to Latin schools in the Netherlands in the 17th century. It disappeared in the Netherlands in the middle of the 19th century, but in other countries, such as England, prize books were still awarded deep into the 20th century to secondary school pupils who had achieved remarkably good grades. Such a book is called 'band' because it has a special bookmark of leather or parchment with a supralibros, a stamp in gold leaf of the town or school that financed the book, which makes it easily distinguishable from other books. This copy shows the Coat of Arms of the Dutch city Utrecht.
