a| The Rijken & De Lange firm was founded in Rotterdam in 1852. Initially, Georg and Jan Rijken, brothers and founders, had no other business capital than a large dose of professional knowledge, a lot of zest for work and each a beautiful tenor voice, with which they made many friends, especially among musicians. Together with Samuel de Lange, organist and well-known tone artist providing start-up capital and accommodation, among other things, they laid the foundations for a company that soon found itself at the centre of Rotterdam's musical life.At the beginning of the 20th century, the firm Rijken & De Lange published a booklet, which was free for the benefit of all future pianists. The booklet clearly covered the construction of the piano and grand piano.
