a| La Comtesse d'Escarbagnas, first performed at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 2 December 1671, is a comedy-ballet with music by Charpentier and ballets by Beauchamps., It was commissioned by Louis XIV for the remarriage of his brother to the Princess Palatine of Bavaria, after his widowhood. Songs and dance (music originally composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, reworked by Marc-Antoine Charpentier) enhanced this high quality show made to impress the German court.
