a| David Martin was a learned French Protestant theologian.

a| Originally edited in Amsterdam 1707, undertaken at the request of the Walloon churches, this revision of the Geneva Bible was approved by the Synod of Leuwarden in May 1710. Martin appended a general Preface on the versions of the sacred text, theological, moral and critical notes, prefaces specific to each book and an indication of parallel passages. The style, retouched by the author in areas that had become outdated, soon needed to be rejuvenated, a painstaking task undertaken in the eighteenth century by the Neuchâtel pastor Ostervald.
