a| English writer and doctor John Aikin is known for his collaboration with his sister Anna Laetitia Barbauld 'Evenings at Home', a collection of short stories for children, as well as his own ten volume 'General Biography'. Aikin practised as a physician before turning purely to literary pursuits in 1798. His poems, or 'English songs' draw inspiration from ancient Latin and Greek verse. An 'Essay on Song-Writing' is prefixed to the verses.
